Editing our Print Advert

In order to create our print advert we used
http://www.channel4.com/about_c4/styleguide
http://www.4creative.co.uk/flash/#/print/press_and_poster/

Using the style guide I was able to get the Channel 4 logo.
ave images of peoples obessions including within the documentary in

The first idea we had was having a box filled with merchandise, of peoples obsessions, however our other idea was to have a closeup of an eye, and have images of people's obsessions within the eye.
In the end we decided on the latter.

The main image used was a close-up of an eye that I took. Using Adobe Photoshop I changed the contrast and brightness of the image to give a sharper focus.

After that I added another tool and using the selection tool and pain buckets tool, i made the required boxes for the text to be place in.

After the font, and Channel 4 logo were added, I lowered the saturation of the main image, and added on the slogan 'What's your's?'

The next thing to add in we're the images in the eye.

Twilight Tshirt taken on an Iphone.

I changed the opacity to around 50% and used the Rubber tool to erase the edges of the images, and lowered the opacity so that the harshness on the brush wasn't sharp.

After this, I realised that the text boxes should go the opposite side, so after doing that, I changed the colour of the Channel 4 logo to a white shade, using the paint bucket tool.

After that I played around with the contrast and saturation until the image was sharp and striking.

The final product.

Editing our Documentary

We used video effects from the box to the left so create a lens flare on the selected clip, We used the razor tool to cut between the clip so that the brightness could increase and therefore look much better. It also adds to the relevance of the Harry Potter 'magic' theme.

When creating the opening titles it took a while to decide on how to end the Title at the end, as we did not want an image to go behind the graphics as we felt it would distract form the Title. We added a video transition from the 3D effects list and chose this. It fits really well, as the curtain like transition gives a feel as if it is 'opening the show'

After editing for quite some time, we noticed that there was a red line at the top. This means the video clips below needs rendering therefore the video quality is not perfect at the moment, hitting the 'enter' key then renders the video and produces a higher quality video.

We used the razor tool again to create a several cuts between the pan of the bedroom covered in posters, as it seemed to be creative. It took some time because you have to cut the music in time with the visual as they were not linked at the time.

When editing the chromakey, they only thing that takes a while is getting the similarity and threshold correct. After some fiddling around we got the best we could get result. However you could still see some of the curtains in the background due to the clip being quite a dark saturation, and has a blue hue to it.
We tried putting the 'Blue-screen' effect onto it, and we found that it worked much better and the edging was smooth.

Adding the graphics was one of the last things we did. pressing F9 gets the Text box up where we then added our font. We decided to lower the opacity so it wasn't a very bold font.

For the graphics on the interview however, we gave text a drop shadow and an outer glow so that it would stand out much more, because our mise-en-scenes are quite colourful and bright.

Editing our Radio Trailer

To produce our radio trailer we used our schools radio suite.

Using Mr Phillips, a teacher at our school, the voice over recording was imported as well as the music bed 'Just can't get enough' by Depeche Mode.Later we were adding in extracts from the documentary and removing the visual.

We then altered the sound levels to make the music bed quiet and smooth with no point being too loud or to quiet. We decided to use an on going part in the song which had no lyrical parts in so it would no distract from the voice over.

Codes and Conventions of Print Adverts

We looked at various print adverts using the website
http://www.4creative.co.uk/flash/#/print/press_and_poster/

Looking at The Channel 4 adverts, we used these to produce our own, using the following Codes and
Conventions:

  • One strong, main image
  • Words are kept to a minimum
  • The slogan is also included on the print advert
  • The title is always included
  • The scheduling information always included
  • Channel logo is prominent  and on the right hand side
  • The print advert is usually A4, landscape size so that it is versatile and can be used at various sizes in newspapers, magazines or on billboards

Examples from 4creative.

Codes and Conventions of a Radio Trailer

  • Includes extracts from the program
  • There is a voice over inter cut throughout
  • The trailer should intrigue the audience and make them want to find out more
  • The scheduling information is included at the end in the order of: title, day & time, channel
  • There is a music bed where appropriate
  • It is 30-40 seconds long
  • Sometimes includes a slogan
  • Sound effects are used
An example of this would be Channel 4's 'Special needs Pets' trailer.

Today, Becky went an interviewed her cousin, Emma who has an obsessed Justin Bieber Fan, as Adam and I could not make it. It took place in her bedroom, and turned out to be a perfect mise-en-scene. However their was a fault with the audio when checking the video, so the interview was filmed again the same day.

As well and the interview, a few of the cutaway were filmed as well, including one we're the camera was hidden, so Emma was spontaneously talking about Justin Bieber which turned out to be perfect for our documentary.

FILMING- Twilight Fan Interview

For this interview we actually decided to use an animated background, so to do this we needed a green screen. We booked to go to the Leaning Lighthouse in Leasowe so we could film this.
So today we went there, and we were briefed on how it worked.

Using the specialist equiptment, we conducted the interview. We made sure that the eyeline was 3rd of the way down and positioned left of the screen.

FILMING- Psychology Teacher Interview. #3

Today the interview, thankfully went well. The mise-en-scene looked much better, as we placed just one 'prob' in the background to anchor his relevance to the interview so it wasn't over distracting. We filmed him in a medium closeup, just below his shoulders, so that the audience would be able to focus on what he was saying much more.

FILMING- Psychology Teacher Interview. #2

So today we re-filmed the interview with Mr De, however, after capturing it, we found out that the audio was not working, so unfortunately we have to re-film again.

FILMING- Psychology Teacher Interview.

Today we decided to conduct an interview with one of our schools Psychology teachers, Mr De.
However once we captured the interview we realised that the positioning and framing of the shot was not correct.

The image above is a still from the interview. The aspects we are going to be changing is the mise-en-scene. The framing will be more compacts so that the background will not distract form the interviewee.
We are keeping the 'brain prop' as it reflects the context of the interview well, but taking out the book as it is just too much.
We have arranged another interview for Monday 18th October.

Questions:

  1. What is the definition of an obsession?
  2. Are you able to overcome an obsession?
  3. Does somebody's personality or life experiences have effect on what it is they become obsessed with?
  4. Does an obsession start over night or does it build up in stages?
  5. Can anybody become obsessed, or is it something that you are born with?
  6. Is having an obsession recognised as a mental illness?
  7. What is OCD?
  8. Can any other mental problems grow from OCD?
  9. How would a psychologist treat a patient suffering from OCD?
  10. Can OCD have an effect on your physical health aswell as your mental health?
  11. How much do you think the media has an effect on people and obsessions?
  12. At what point does an obsession become dangerous?

FILMING- Harry Potter Fan Interview.

Setting up the Interview.

Today was our first day of filming. We had asked Naomi, the Harry Potter fan if she would be able to spare one lunch time to film her in school. She agreed, and said she would bring in some 'prop's including a cape and wand. As this was our first attempt, Adam and I got the framing wrong, and we noticed that the mise-en-scene was a bit off when we came to capture it on Premire Pro.

Questions:

1.Do you think you have an obsession?

2. How did you first get into Harry Potter and why do you like it?

3. Did you read the books first? and did the movies live up to them?

6. What is your favourite film and why?

7. what do your friends and family think about your obsession with it?

8.Do you think you will ever grow out of it, and why?
